FAQ- Study in Italy

There is no single Italy-wide IELTS requirement. The university/programme sets the English-language requirement. For an English-taught course, IELTS may be required if the university asks for it. The current Islamabad postgraduate checklist accepts IELTS if required by the university, or a language certificate from the institution where the applicant completed the most recent course.

For July–September 2026, the Italian Embassy Islamabad lists the National Study Visa (D) at €50 / PKR 16,250.

Consular fees are revised quarterly; BLS/Intiana service charges can be additional.

First secure admission and complete the Universitaly pre-enrolment. For 2026/27, the university must validate the pre-enrolment before the student can submit the visa application. After validation, the appointment process is handled through BLS-Intiana. Submit at the centre responsible for your permanent residence. After arrival, obtain the required Italian residence permit (permesso di soggiorno).

There is no universal rule that every student has a separate formal interview. However, the consular authority can assess the application, ask questions and request additional documents. Be ready to explain your university, programme, finances, accommodation and study plan.

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast

A student visa is for the student and does not automatically give family members residence. Eligible family members can use separate family-reunification procedures subject to Italian immigration requirements, including relationship, accommodation and financial conditions.

Yes. Italy has an Embassy in Islamabad and visa centres in Pakistan. As of 6 September 2026, the Multan and Faisalabad centres permanently closed; appointment booking/application intake for the Islamabad jurisdiction is now through Islamabad and Lahore. Karachi and Quetta fall under the Italian Consulate General in Karachi.

Yes. An Italian study residence permit allows part-time work up to 20 hours per week and 1,040 hours per year.

A student permit does not itself equal permanent residence. Long-term EU residence is a separate status with its own requirements, generally involving a qualifying period of lawful residence and other conditions. Study status alone does not automatically convert into PR; the exact qualifying residence calculation and status requirements should be checked before planning settlement.

There is no single national fixed fee. Italian universities set their own fees. Public universities generally charge less than private universities, and fees can depend on family income and programme. Low-income students may qualify for reductions/exemptions and regional right-to-study benefits.

There is no single national fixed fee. Public-university fees vary by institution, programme and family-income assessment; private universities are generally more expensive. Regional scholarships/benefits can reduce or cover tuition and living costs for eligible students.

There is no guaranteed Pakistan-to-Italy processing time. Appointment availability, university validation, completeness and consular assessment affect the timeline. For 2026/27, appointments are assigned after university validation, in chronological order of validation. Apply as early as possible.

The current Islamabad postgraduate checklist includes the Universitaly pre-enrolment summary, admission letter, CIMEA certificate where required, original educational documents with apostille and Italian translation, language proof if required, financial evidence including six months of bank statements, an apostilled FRC, passport and other supporting documents. The exact current checklist for the programme/visa category must be followed.

Important: tuition, IELTS requirements, scholarship eligibility, document legalization and appointment arrangements can differ by university/programme and can change during the year.
